DUDEFRUIT PRIMER
THE CHART
THE EXPLANATION
Axes
Y - Can Hang (does not need dudefruit)
Characters that are relatively normal already. You’d get coffee with them, you’d invite them to watch roller derby together, etc etc
Y - Can't hang (needs dudefruit)
Characters that are Like That. Characters that you put in your phone as “Don’t Answer”. Characters that you cross the street so you don’t have to awkwardly say hi to them.
X - "Clown"
Characters that are smarmy. They’re called charismatic by some and ridiculous by others. They always prefer to talk their way out of situations before a fight breaks out.
X - "Henchman"
Characters that are stubborn to a fault. They’ve repressed all their emotions except for the anger in their heart. They follow strict rules, but those rules aren’t usually ones they should be following.
Quadrants
"Susceptible to cults"
Characters that are driven by a strict and unforgiving moral agenda. Characters with a stick so far up their own ass, they're practically spitting up splinters. Characters that are easy to indoctrinate and take hold of, but never get invited anywhere to chill with friends. Because they don't have any, usually.
Examples
Sephiroth (FF7), Inspector Javert (Les Miserables)
"Pleasure to Have in Class"
Characters with a much shorter stick up their ass. Characters that generally play by the rules, but they're willing to bend to make the lives of the people around them more liveable. The cool kind of ass-kissers.
Examples
Chidi Anagonye (The Good Place), Dipper Pines (Gravity Falls)
"Unhinged (Horny)"
Characters driven less by a moral code and more of a need to charm the pants off of anyone they encounter. Characters that try their best to not give a shit about silly things like "consequences", "politeness", or "being honest".
Examples
Lucifer (Lucifer), Eleanor Shellstrop (The Good Place)
"Class Clown"
Characters that charm the pants off of you, but know when to turn it down if needed. Characters that like to make a mess, but they stick around to clean it up afterwards. Usually.
Examples
Mabel Pines (Gravity Falls), Scorpia (She-Ra and the Princesses of Power)
THE ORIGINS
One fateful night in 2019, Iz and I were returning from a road trip with my entire family to my parents’ house. We’d been on the road for something like 8 straight hours and we wanted nothing more than to sleep in a bed.
Approximately 2 minutes after laying our heads down in the guest bedroom and closing our eyes, we both realized there was no way we could get to sleep. And we started talking about two of our favorite characters. Galahad Teomes (Aveyond) and Tryst Valentine (Campaign Podcast). Both of these guys are...a lot.
“What if there was a fruit that stopped characters from being Like That?”
“What if there was sex pollen, but for being normal?”
And dudefruit was born…
